What is faith and why do I need it ?

Fundamental in our approach to God is the idea of faith. If you have a desire for getting to know God, you will need faith in him. You may have little faith but your faith can increase into faith that gives you the confidence that God is real. Faith that says: even though I have not seen, I do believe. Faith that says: In Jesus Christ I have a greater hope than what the world is offering.

You may not yet be at this place in your faith but you can increase your faith by praying and reaching out to God to increase your faith and then exercising your faith in God. The Bible explains faith in this way: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. *Hebrews 11:1. *But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. *Hebrews 11:6. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear *Hebrews 11:3.

In our daily life activities we practice examples of faith in things we cannot see and not sure of. You did not know if the chair you saw for the first time would hold you up if you sat on it, yet without checking, you had faith that it would. You had faith that a bottle of water you purchased contained only water, or that the pilot of an airplane you boarded would remain in control and that the aircraft itself would not develop a problem while flying. Those are examples of you having faith in things that can fail. Faith is something we practice every day. It would be impossible to function normally without faith. To begin to know God, you must have faith in him.
