This is an ancient question in the history of humanity. For many this remains a perplexing though. The question indicates the desire within mankind to be In touch with an authority greater than ourselves. Whether this is acknowledged or not, it is that yearning to be connected to our creator. Somewhere, somehow, someone greater than us, has to be there, or here holding things together; and so the question continues to persist. Why can we not see, or at least have some direct and audible indication from God; why is he so silent and distant from us? So that we all may be convinced, just something that would suffice?
In frustration some have taken the position that there is no authority or being, greater than ourselves; but that position seems absurd. A view that is simply ridiculous since all things continue to be held together. The earth is still suspended in space and life continues. Both of which are contingent upon the existence of He who is self-sustaining and supreme above all. Despite of wars and violence, weapons of mass destruction, we still have not been able to completely destroy ourselves. Somehow, intrinsic moral values continues. So the counter question is then: Upon whom does it all depend? The sense of distance remains, man feels disconnected from God, unsatisfied and yearns for some connection. The question continues to persist and man continues to seek the answer that would satisfy this yearning.
How we view this distance between God and mankind, is based on our perception. We have to understand that the present status is not how God intends it to be. Before mankind’s fall into sin, man had closed communion with our creator God. Sin ruined the relationship man had with God, causing the separation between Him and us but God has instituted a plan to rectify this situation and restore his original intention.
From the Bible we learned how God saw the sinful condition of mankind and in his plan for the revelation of himself, our restoration and salvation, He sought out and spoke to a man, he called Abraham. Through Abraham he made a nation he called Israel, who was to be the example of a holy nation. Through this nation he would reveal himself to the whole world. God spoke audibly and directly to the Israelite nation as they they were led by his servant Moses and gathered at the foot of Mount Sinai. After that experience the people decided that they would rather God speak to them through his servant Moses. The Supreme intelligent God, has a greater plan than speaking in general terms to the world. In various ways God has spoken to people in different circumstances, in dreams and visions and theophany. He has spoken to his people through his prophets as he nurtures, guides, and chastens them.
God wants a restored relationship with us. He is big enough that everyone who desire him, can have a personal relationship with him through his Son Jesus Christ, in whom he has revealed himself on earth to the world. By reading his written word, the Bible with an open heart, one can start getting to know God in a personal relationship with him. All that is required of us is to have faith in Him. Through his salvation plan, God seeks to bring mankind back to himself. The Bible says we shall see him as he is. The only way to God the Father is through Jesus Christ his Son. Jesus said: I the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.
