The Christian faith is monotheistic in its belief that there is only one God. A doctrines of the faith teaches that God is one in being, existing in three persons: Father Son and Holy Spirit. (this doctrine is called the Trinity) It does not teach that there are three Gods. All three members of the Godhead work in unison with each other as one God. The Bible does not teach three Gods, the word trinity there however, the Bible does teach the concept of the trinity; God existing in three persons: Father Son and Holy Spirit. An example of this was clearly revealed at the baptism of Jesus when all three were manifested. The Father speaking from heaven saying this is my Son in whom I am well pleased. The Holy Spirit descending as a dove and the Son Jesus Christ being baptized by John the Baptist.
The Bible teaches that at creation, as God was about to create man he said: “Let us make man.” Indicating that God exists in the plural. He could not have been talking to others, since he alone is God. He could not have been talking to Angels since only God create life. God is omnipotent and therefore does not need help to create whatever he wants to create. The Son calls the Father God. The Father calls the Son God. The Son said he would send the Holy Spirit. The Son refers to the Holy Spirit as a person, the Son prayed to the Father not to himself. The Father raised the Son from the dead. This concept of God being one existing in three persons, seems difficult for us finite human beings trying to understand the infinite God.
